Orange Bay Island Hurghada — Your Guide to a Hidden Red Sea Beach

Orange Bay — sometimes called Orange Island — is one of Hurghada's most beautiful offshore destinations and remains less crowded than Giftun Island despite comparable beach and water quality. This guide covers everything about visiting.

What Is Orange Bay?

Orange Bay (Sha'ab Orange in Arabic) is a sheltered bay and small island approximately 12km southeast of Hurghada. The bay is protected on most sides, giving calmer water than some other snorkelling sites. The beach is white sand, the water crystal clear, and the reef accessible directly from the beach in the shallower sections.

Getting There

Orange Bay is included in many standard Hurghada boat trips — often as one stop on a three-island trip alongside Giftun and Paradise Island. Dedicated Orange Bay trips are also available. Travel time: approximately 45–60 minutes by speedboat from Hurghada marina.

Snorkelling at Orange Bay

The reef at Orange Bay is particularly good for beginners — accessible from shallow water and with excellent fish variety. The sheltered bay means calmer conditions than open reef sites even on windy days. Common sightings: parrotfish, various wrasse species, pufferfish, sea urchins, and coral formations.

Orange Bay vs Giftun Island

Orange Bay tends to be calmer (more sheltered) and less crowded than Giftun. Giftun has better reef quality overall and a larger beach. For families with young children or nervous snorkellers, Orange Bay's calmer water is often preferable. For experienced snorkellers wanting the best reef, Giftun is superior.

Combining Orange Bay With Other Trips

Most visitors see Orange Bay as part of a multi-stop day trip. The classic Hurghada three-island trip combining Giftun, Orange Bay, and Dolphin House (or Paradise Island) gives you the best combination of reef quality, beach, and potential dolphin encounter in a single day.
