Paragliding in Hurghada — Aerial Adventures on the Red Sea

Hurghada's consistent thermal conditions and spectacular Red Sea backdrop create outstanding conditions for aerial activities. This guide covers what is available for those who want to experience the Red Sea from the air.

Parasailing in Hurghada

Parasailing — being towed behind a speedboat while attached to a parachute — is the most widely available aerial activity in Hurghada. Available from most major hotel beaches and water sports operators along the main tourist strip. Height: typically 100–200m above the water. Duration: 10–15 minutes in the air. Cost: £20–£35 per person. The views from parasailing height over the Red Sea, the hotel strip, and the desert behind are genuinely spectacular. No experience or training required — you are attached to the parachute on the boat deck and gently lifted as the boat accelerates.

Paragliding Options

Traditional paragliding (foot-launched from terrain) requires specific conditions that Hurghada's flat coastal geography does not easily provide. However, motor paragliding (paramotoring) is available through specialist operators — a motorised backpack unit launches you from flat ground and allows free flight over the desert and coastline. The Red Sea Hills behind Hurghada provide some terrain for experienced free-flight paragliders, though this is a niche activity best arranged through specialist adventure operators.

Microlight and Light Aircraft Flights

Several operators in the Hurghada area offer microlight and ultralight aircraft flights over the Red Sea coastline and desert. These give a different aerial perspective from parasailing — longer duration, more controlled flight path, and the ability to fly over specific landmarks. Cost: £60–£120 for a 30-minute flight. Arrange through specialist operators in El Gouna or through Hurghada aviation clubs.

Safety and Booking

For all aerial activities: book through established operators with verifiable safety records and proper equipment. For parasailing (the most accessible option), check that the tow boat is appropriately powered and that a trained operator manages the parachute system. Most major hotel water sports desks offer parasailing with established safety protocols.
